On the 18th May last Carrauntoohil mountain was conquered by a group of enthusiastic fundraisers from West Waterford in an effort to raise money for two worthy causes.
Ballycurrane National School
Ballycurrane National School will shortly be requiring in excess of Twenty Thousand Euro’s to complete a well needed extension to their primary school which at present is bursting at the seams with 45 students and three staff
Strings and Things Festival
Strings and Things Festival, a popular music festival to be held in Clashmore this June bank holiday weekend which requires Ten Thousand Euro’s of funding annually to bring entertainment to the revellers of the festival.
The climb
The group 28 in all led by our local and seasoned mountain climber Thomas Beasung and supported by a local group in Killarney started their climb at 9:30 on the morning of the 18th, 4.5 hours later after a arduous hike the Ballycurrane National School Banner which had been created by the children of the school and showcased all their hand prints was held high at the peak of the mountain.
Total amount raised
While counting was in progress for the European and Local Elections, counting was also in progress in Clashmore village and on 27th May 2018, the count was in! Where it was announced that €5,200.00 was raised for two great causes. Where the monies will be split equally.
